Birmingham Conservatives have announced they will axe Labour’s planned congestion charge if they take control of Birmingham City Council in the all out local election of May 2018. The Labour run City Council have confirmed they are considering plans to introduce a congestion charge across Birmingham that would cost drivers around £2,700 a year to travel into Birmingham.
Leader of the Conservative Group Cllr Robert Alden, who studied air pollution control and management at the University of Birmingham, said “Labour’s congestion charge won’t actually improve air quality, its just a simple solution for a party more interested in looking like they are doing something, rather than think outside the box to find a solution to help Birmingham.”
Time and again, numerous reviews of the London congestion charge have highlighted that the charge has failed to decreased air pollution and hasn’t resulted in any improvement in air quality.
Local Campaigner Simon Morrall, said “This will only hit the poorest hardest, especially residents in Frankley Great Park, who may have to travel through Birmingham on a daily basis” He added “Once again, Labour are more interested in taxing residents, then finding solutions.”
On May 3rd residents will have a choice between Labour and their congestion charge or the Conservatives and our positive vision to deliver a cleaner, greener environment for everyone.
