I constantly stand up for the Night Time Economy (making headlines doing so), in particular on the Planning and Licensing committees where I feel noise assessments by officers have been flawed and lack greater understanding of how Brum’s vibrant nightlife operates.
We know this from case studies on Broad Street / West Side, The Gay Village / South Side and most prominently in Digbeth / East Side, which is drastically being redeveloped on the back of HS2!
Given the sheer scale of residential developments that the Labour run Birmingham City Council are approving in and around town, I felt that stronger safe guards need to be in place! So I’m happy to see that my request to bring this issue to a Scrutiny Committee has finally been honoured!
In future I’ve also calling for a inquiry into this with the long term goal be to update the BDP so more weight is given in favour of the licensed premises.
The City Centre should be a “Safe Space” for the night time economy. Period!
