One of the most persistent problems that residents contact me about is the rise in fly tipping, which has increased by 20% in Birmingham throughout 2016/2017 alone. In fact, there has been more than 30,000 incidents of fly-tipping in Birmingham since 2015 while only four people have been jailed.
The Labour run Birmingham City Council have carried out 336 fewer enforcement cases while the clean-up bill continues to soar to almost £1 million a year during 2016/17. This is thanks to their introduction of refuse collections charges, first for garden waste and later for furniture. This has only worsened the problem as people seek to dump their rubbish on the cheap.
While the Frankley Parish Council does its bit, the city Councils policy has been a complete failure, and we think it’s time for change.
If elected in May, myself and the Conservatives will restore bulky waste collections to cut fly tipping and finally scrap the garden waste charges, while introducing clean-up crews to make our streets cleaner. By doing this, we will drastically cut the level of fly tipped waste and increase recycling, helping to deliver a cleaner, greener community.
