Thank you to everyone who supported me on 3rd May. It’s hard to explain how humbled I am to be elected as your Councillor and to represent Frankley Great Park.
Commiserations to Andrew Cartwright, who was very graceful during his defeat. I can quite honestly say I have never worked so hard in my life; I was selected as the candidate in early 2017 and over the course of 13 months spoke to over a thousand people, walked over a million steps, and worn out six pairs of shoes. I was limping on polling day with cardboard stuffed into my shoes. I authored, designed and hand delivered multiple leaflets across the ward, all self funded and all completely voluntary. You must be dedicated, deluded, or mad, to do all of that in a ward that everyone said the Conservatives could never win…
Well… didn’t we prove them all wrong!
I won 3 out of the 4 polling districts and drew on the forth with an overall majority of 155. I absolutley smashed my target, breaking a thousand votes with 50.9% of the vote share. While some Labour supporters have remained bitter online (‘kinder, gentler, politics’), most people have been greatful to have a Conservative knock their door throughout the year and see a young working class lad, share the same concerns, apathy and discontent for the Birmingham administration as they do.
The long and short of it is quite simple : a young lad raised on a council estate with a hard work ethic and a travel bag full of leaflets, took on a Labour stronghold and unseated a household name. It’s this drive, tenacity, and attitude that makes me a Conservative, and why I am the best choice to bring genuine change to our community.
Together, we will move Frankley Forward!
Thank you once again for voting!
