A campaign to save our weekly refuse collections has been launched, backed by local campaigner Simon Morrall. This follows a recent publication of a new Waste Strategy by the Labour controlled Birmingham City Council. The report, as covered in the Birmingham Post, recommended that all of our bins should be collected fortnightly, instead of weekly from 2019.
Simon Morrall Said “After putting residents through 221 days of summer chaos to save £5.5m, Labour ended up having to spend £7m cleaning up the City and even agreed to pay the Union’s court fees meaning costs are likely to reach over £10m, without securing any improvements to the service. Now they’re going to pay for this by increasing council tax from April and introducing fortnightly refuse collections from 2019. We deserve better then this!”
